Govt vows to standardize public transportation system

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation vowed Tuesday it would standardize public transportation system in Kabul and provinces within three years.

“People will witness great changes in transportation system in Kabul and provinces,” said transportation minister Mohammadullah Batash.

He confirmed challenges in urban and rural transportation system, saying that “efforts will behold to standardize transportation system in capital and provinces in next three years.”

He termed lack of standard stations and terminals for buses in capital and provinces big challenges that marred transportation system in capital and provinces.

He said that it is required of municipality to cooperation with the MoTCA to establish bus stations inside the cities and pave the ground for a better public transportation system across the country.

He said that 130 terminals along with car repairing workshops would be made in different provinces to boost facilities for passengers.

A draft also established to ensure safety of roads in the country, he claimed.

Pointing to 600 public buses stopped due to technical problems, minister pledged to repair all of them within one next year.

He said that work over repairing of 200 public buses will be started in coming days.

He called lack of bus stations and existence of handcart on the roads one of the main factors behind poor public transportation system in the country.

Deputy of Ministry of Commerce and Industries Qurban Haqjoo said that in advance government must address eternal transport issues and latter focus on external problems.

He insisted that terminals, evacuation warehouses and stations must be established inside the country.

Transportation laws need to be revised and transportation system should be observed and managed in a better manner for further progress, he underlined.

Batash committed to standardize public transportation in next three years, while most of people complaining of lack of transportation system in capital. Due to lack of a proper public transportation system people using private buses, mini-buses and private vehicles, which has been caused a terrible traffic in the capital.
