Heavy fighting ongoing in Takhar

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Heavy fighting between Afghan security forces and the Taliban militants are underway in northern Takhar province, said a local official.

Muhammad Omar Omar, Khwaja Ghar district chief, said that security forces have launched clearance operations against militants in the district. He added that the forces have cleared around 10 villages of the district from presence of the Taliban militants. “Afghan security forces continue advancing towards Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province,” TOLOnews quoted Omar as saying.

He didn’t provide details about casualties inflected to the Taliban militants in the fighting.

The Taliban militants stormed several military checkpoints in Khwaja Ghar district of Takhar around four days ago.

It is worth mentioning that the Taliban militants captured Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province last week.

According to another report, Afghan security forces have killed the Taliban’s shadow district chief for Darqand district in Takhar province.

Khalil Aseer, spokesman for Takhar police, said that security forces during a fighting with the militant group in Darqand killed the Taliban’s shadow chief for the district, Mullah Malik, and wounded seven other militants.

Aseer said that three policemen have been also killed in the fighting.
