Kabul: Thousands of Herat residents on Wednesday (March 15) commemorated the 44th anniversary of an uprising against Afghanistan’s communist then-government at the Cemetery of the Unknown Martyrs in Herat city.
Herat governor said “I hope that some of our brothers who have been deceived by the terrorist organizations and ideas of some ignorant people, or those who have been deceived by the hype of the media, will return to the arms of the nation.”
Many of the participants in this ceremony are survivors of the 24-Hout Uprising of the Herat people.
Some of these survivors told Tolo news that when the communist regime ran over the people with tanks, blood was everywhere.
The people of Herat rose against the communist regime in Afghanistan on March 15, 1979, and according to some accounts, more than 20 thousand people were killed.
