HIA inches closer to peace deal: Report

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Hezb-e-Islami Party of Afghanistan (HIA), led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, has said that they party is close to a final declaration on peace deal with the government, a source close to the group said.

Negotiations regarding peace deal have concluded and preparation are underway for a final declaration, the sources have told RFE.

At the same time official at the High Peace Council (HPC) said that they expect to have a peace deal with the group.The council spokesman, Mohammad Amin Muzafari said that peace agreement containing 25 articles has been prepared with the mediation of the HPC.

In the past, peace talks with the HIA was a hot issue, where officials said that discussions over a peace deal with the Hezb-e-Islami, and anti-government armed group is expected to be finalized from government side in the near future with President Ashraf Ghani signing an agreement with Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the group’s leader.

“People will be aware of the details of the agreement before it is signed,” Ismael Qasemyar, the council’s international adviser, said at that time.

“The agreement will be signed by President Ghani, head of the high peace council Sayed Ahmad Gilani and the leader of Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar,” Qasemyar added.

Moreover, the HIA said that it has been “fully committed” to women’s rights and achievements of the government which were made over the past 14 years after collapse of the Taliban regime in the country.
