Honor killing: young boy, girl shot dead in Baghlan

AT-KABUL: In a fresh case of honor killing, a young boy and a girl were shot dead by their relatives in northern Baghlan province.

According to an official source in the province, a 15-year old girl run away with a 17-year old boy to get married around 10 days ago. They were allegedly shot dead by their relatives, when they wanted to return to their home village, Bati Saqal in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the province.

Baghlan-e-Markazi district chief, Gawhar Khan Babori, said that they have arrested relatives of the girl in connection with the killings. He added that police are thoroughly investigating the incident.

Khadija Yaqeen, the provincial director of women affairs department, strongly denounced the incident urged local security officials to bring the culprits to the book.

Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) recently said that cases of violence against women have considerably increased in Afghanistan’s north.
