KABUL: The officials in the western province of Heart said that hundreds of drug addicts are under treatment in the provincial center prison.
The treatment is provided by the government in cooperation with some private institutions. According to the officials, more than 2,000 drug addicts have been brought in for treatment, of whom 800 are treated and joined their families. There are around 1,200 drug addicts under treatment currently.
The drug addicts are happy about their treatment.
“I am very happy that I will return to my family. If God willing, I will not repeat using drugs again,” said Ahmad, a drug user.
Drug addiction and drug trafficking are one of the main challenges in Afghanistan. Recently, the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlawi Hebatullah Akhundzada ordered a nationwide ban on the cultivation of poppies and use of any type of drug.
