IDPs in Badghis seek govt support

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Mounting insecurity in Badghis province have forced many families to leave their homes and seek refuge in safe areas, said an official source.

According to reports, clashes between security forces and militants in Bala Murghab, Aab Kamari and Qads districts of the province have been started on Tuesday and are still going on.

The clashes have displaced thousands of people from different districts of the province.

Hamid a displaced persons from Mirchaq area of Bala Murghab district said that more than 1000 people from the area have left their homes due to conflicts and are now living in a dire situation.  “We are around 1000 people, including men, women, and children, who left their home around six days ago,” he added. He said that most of the displaced children are sick and situation might get even worse if they didn’t receive aid.

An elderly woman told Azadi Radio that they are livening in a very bad condition and have nothing to eat.

The displaced people have fled to bordering areas with Turkmenistan. They said that they have even sought assistance from Turkmen border guards. “The border guards said that they cannot help us,” said one of the displaced people.

The chairman of Badghis provincial council, Bahauddin Qadsi, said that the displaced people only want to return to their homes.
