Displaced children at high risk of severe illness

AT News

KABUL: A number of Internal Displaced People (IDPs) families say that their children are getting ill and are prone to more illness due to lack of shelters in Faryab districts.

These people were forced to flee their homes due to escalation of war and insecurity in seven districts, particularly in Qaisar, Khwaja Sabz Posh. They are now resettled in Maimana, capital city of the province, leaving them displaced in their own city.

Sarajudin and Rozi Qul, two displaced persons said they had fled the war with empty hands and their children infected with pneumonia due to cold weather.

According to them, local government offices and relevant organs have not addressed their problems.

Abdul Majeed, one of the IDPs in Qaisar district claimed that during fighting between the security forces and Taliban group, several mortars landed on his house, which resulted in killing some of his family members.

Provincial Acting Police Chief, Sayed Masour Yaqubi called the IDPs condition deplorable and asked the government to pay attention to the aspect.

On the other hand, Provincial Refugee and Repatriation Head of Faryab, Gholam Faroq Mohamadi expressed unawareness regarding illness of the IDPs children, but confirmed that IDPs are facing food and shelter problems. He said that the aid distribution process will be kicked off next week to help them.

At the status quo, there is intensive fighting in seven districts of Faryab that forced 3,000 families to leave their homes to Mamimana city.
