AT-KABUL: India has committed to provide annual financial assistance of one million US dollars over a period of five years for the treatment of children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease (CHD), the Indian embassy in Kabul said on Saturday in a media statement.

According to the statement the assistance would be provided to the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), the first installment of $1 million was disbursed to ARCS in August 2015.

“With the assistance, about 214 Afghan children covering age group from as young as four months to nineteen years, have been treated at various hospitals in India,” the statement said.

In addition, India is the largest regional provider of humanitarian and reconstruction aid to Afghanistan and also provides financial, technical and training support to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health in Kabul.
