India’s Barkatullah University to open campus in Afghanistan

KABUL: India’s Barkatullah University (BU) has showed interest in opening a campus in Afghanistan and signed a “Letter of Intent” with the Afghan ambassador to New Delhi Shaida Mohammad Abdali in this regard.

Vice Chancellor of the university Prof MD Tiwari told Press Trust of India (PTI) that BU has planned to sign a Memorandum of Understand (MoU) with the Sheikh Zayed University (SZU) of Afghanistan for academic exchange.

“In a month or two, we are likely to send a delegation to Khost province of Afghanistan where SZU is based. We want to work with SZU on mutual teaching, learning, syllabus and other areas. There will also be students exchange programme between the two universities under the MoU. If this works out well, we have plans to open a campus in Khost province. This is not an overnight affair. For opening the campus overseas, we have to take permission from Madhya Pradesh government and External Affairs Ministry,” PTI quoted Tiwari.

Regarding security of the Indian students in Afghanistan, Tiwari said that the Afghan envoy assured them of security.
