Instead of working at office, ex-MoPH officials opted to be globetrotters: Feroz

By Akhtar M. Nikzad-Kabul: The Minister of Public Works, Ferozuddin Feroz, branded the former officials of the ministry of as incompetent.

Feroz told a press conference the other day that former officials in the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) were ‘globetrotters not managers’. “They always preferred sightseeing tours to foreign countries over serving their people,” he said.

Feroz said that more than 450 advisors in the ministry were performing management duties and functions, for officials in the ministry were busy in foreign tours. “Let me confess that the advisors who should give advices to high-ranking officials were performing management duties,” he added.

He said that the MoPH was performing its activities based on short-term uplift projects, funded by donor organizations and it lacked long-term effective plans.

He stressed that the MoPH was committed to devise effective plans for improvement of healthcare service in the country. He said that the ministry will hire new advisors through the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission (IARCSC).

“We reviewed qualifications of those who have applied for advisor’s position in the MoPH. IARCSC will now select capable people through a competitive process,” Feroz said.

Currently there are more than 450 advisors working in the ministry who receive immensely high salaries from some international organizations.

The minister said that MoPH will soon get rid of these advisors.

“Despite receiving support from the international community, Afghanistan has the highest mother and child mortality rate in the region,” Feroz added.

It is worth mentioning that despite millions of dollars spent on improvement of healthcare service, hundreds of Afghans go for treatment abroad, mostly Pakistan and India.
