AT-KABUL: Meshrano Jirga said that Iran’s support for the Taliban is way more dangerous than Pakistan’s interference in Afghanistan.
Senators in a plenary session of the Meshrano Jirga on Tuesday said that Islamabad is interfering in Afghanistan’s affairs for years now, but now Iran is also in the quest to face country with new challenges.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Tehran is secretly supporting, arming and training the Taliban insurgents.
Speaker of the Meshrano Jirga, Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, urged the government adopt a clear stance towards neighboring countries.
“If the report holds any weight, then Iran’s support for the Taliban is really a matter of concern,” he said, adding that Kabul will never interfere in the internal affairs of any country and it expects other countries to restrain from interference in its internal affairs.
A Turkish news agency recently reported that the Taliban has urged Tehran to open a political office for the group in Iran.
