IS emerges in Logar, official reports

AT-KABUL: Officials in central Logar province reported activities of Islamic State (IS) fighters in some parts of the province.

Head of the Logar provincial council, Hasibullah Stankzai, in an interview with Azadi Radio expressed his deep concerns over emergence of IS (Daish) fighters in some parts of the province. He said that the insurgent group has started its activities in Charkh, Kharwar, Khosha and Muhammad Agha districts of the province.

“IS fighters first emerged in Charkh district raising black flags, and later they expanded their activities to other districts,” Stankzai said.

Media reports previously surfaced about presence of the IS fighters in Helmand, Farah, Ghazni Zabul and other provinces.

Logar Police Chief, Abdul Hakim Eshaqzai, said that Taliban in the province have launched an uprising against the IS fighters in the province. Hinting at emergence of IS fighters in the province, he said that they are not foreigners, but people of the areas.  He said that two Taliban commanders, Mulkah Naqib and Mullah Nani, have launched an uprising against those who hoisted the black flag of IS.

The Ministry of Interior also recently confirmed that some terrorist groups have started their activities with the label of Daish in Afghanistan.

Gen. Murad Ali Murad, commander of the infantry forces of Afghan National Army (ANA), during his visit to northern Balkh province the other day said that the president had ordered security forces to fight against all terrorist groups, regardless of their label.
