Islamic Emirate Stresses on Self-Sufficiency in Afghanistan

AT News

KABUL: First Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar urged the government institution to attempt to reach self-sufficiency, saying that the aid provided by international donors is only helpful to tackle the crisis for a short time.

Mullah Bardar made the remarks at a ceremony held to celebrate the National Day of Farmers in the capital city of Kabul.

He also said that a new agricultural plan will be implemented soon through which more than half of the country’s population will be benefited.

The new plan will pave the way “for irrigation of half of Afghanistan,” he said.

“We must work day and night and immediately bring a system that makes Afghans self-sufficient,” Mullah Baradar added.

Majority of the Afghans are depending on farming and livestock for their daily income. As Afghanistan has recently been hit with the severe economic and humanitarian crisis, analysts believe that incentivizing the country’s agriculture and mining sectors are the best way to rotate the Afghan economic chain.
