Italy pledges €120m in defense aid
AT-KABUL: Italian government has pledged a sum of 120 million Euros in defense fund. At a meeting with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister in Kabul on Wednesday, Italy’s Special Representative for Afghanistan said his country will contribute 120 million Euros to strengthen Afghan security forces, foreign ministry said in a statement.
The Italian representative Alberto Peri also renewed Rome’s commitment to Afghanistan and emphasized over further enhancement of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, the statement added.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the Afghan government peace mechanism, international community perspective on Afghan peace process, including isolation of terrorist groups in the region, the statement added.
The Italy’s representative Alberto Peri headed her country’s delegation in the second conference of Kabul Process, kicked off on Wednesday in Kabul.
Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani commended Italy’s cooperation with Afghanistan in fight against terrorism and reconstruction of the country, especially the uplift projects conducted by Italy in southern Herat province.
