A-KABUL: Italy’s Foreign Minister said Tuesday that he is not informed of Defense Minister’s announcement over troop’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that it was never informed of the intentions of the Minister of Defence, Elisabetta Trenta, before she released a statement to the press on the decision to withdraw the Italian military contingent from Afghanistan,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
“Defence Minister (Elisabetta) Trenta has instructed the Inter force Operating Command (COI) to assess the start of planning to withdraw the Italian contingent,” ANSA reported.
The proposed pullout could take a year. The decision welcomed as positive by 5-Star Movement, whose leader Alessandro Di Battista called the move ‘splendid news’.
It is worth mentioning that efforts for a political solution to the Afghan conflict is getting momentum in as based on media reports, US and Taliban agreed on key principles, including pullout of foreign troops.
The development made after 6-day consecutive talks between US and Taliban members in Qatar, where both sides showed the progress part of the talks that eventually a political settlement is insight in the prologue war in Afghanistan.
