Kabul: Residents of Jalalabad, the center of Nangarhar province, say that most of the citizens have limited access to potable water, but the rest of them face problems in getting clean water.

Ghulam Nabi, a resident of the 4th district of Jalalabad city, says that the water supply agency has installed pipes to supply clean drinking water to his homes, but he has water for half an hour in 24 hours.

Ghulam Nabi added: “The water supply agency has not addressed the problems of the citizens as necessary in this regard, and often we get water from hand pumps instead of the monthly water supply.

Khan Wali, a resident of the first district of Jalalabad city, also complains that he get water only one or half an hour in 24 hours and often uses wells built at his own expense.

He criticizes that the employees of the water supply agency collect bills from citizens for dry taps.

Khan Wali said: “Some families buy water and the water supply agency also charges them every month. Our demand is that the water supply agency should find a solution to our problems.”

In the fifth district of Jalalabad city, due to the lack of clean drinking water, people are forced to dig a water well at their own expense, but considering the current economic problems, many families are not able to build a well.

Sharafat, a resident of that area, criticizes the water supply agency and says that the water taps of many families do not even have a meter system and those families who deliver the water bill on time are counting on the high price and empty water taps.

He adds that most of the citizens are using contaminated water due to the lack of clean drinking water and people have contracted various diseases while drinking it.

It is not only the residents of Jalalabad, the capital city of Nangarhar, who complain about the lack of clean water. There are many other provinces where the residents do not have access to clean drinking water.

Afghanistan have been severely affected by recent droughts and besides the drying up of the soil, it has also made it difficult to access drinking water.
