KABUL: The Kabul based diplomatic missions condemned the Taliban attack on UNAMA compound in the western province of Herat.
“The diplomatic missions to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the EU Delegation, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, the Office of NATO Senior Civilians Representative, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States condemn Friday’s deplorable attack on the United Nations Compound in Herat,” a joint statement of the foreign missions said on Tuesday.
The missions called for an investigation into the attack. Last Friday, the compound of the UNAMA was attacked hours after the Taliban fighters entered the capital city of Herat.
It demanded the Taliban to stop “denying their involvement in the human rights violations” and follow the rule of law.
“As we said previously, the Taliban’s offensives are in direct contradiction to their claim to support negotiated settlement of the conflict and the Doha peace process.”
The missions also stressed on an immediate end to the ongoing violence and a permanent ceasefire.
