Kabul, Beijing confer on regional cooperation, Shanghai conference

AT-KABUL: National Security Adviser, Haneef Atmar met Chinese special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Deng Xijun in Kabul, discussing the regional cooperation and the upcoming Shanghai conference.

The two sides also discussed joint struggle against terrorism, Afghan peace process and the cooperation situation among the regional countries. Atmar and Deng also discussed the upcoming Shanghai conference and a meeting between leaders of the two countries at the sidelines of the conference.

Deng assured that his country would support the Afghan-led peace process and promised Beijing’s assistance in this regard. He called regional cooperation important for the success of the Afghan peace program.

Atmar thanked China for its honest efforts and assistance in Afghanistan. “Success of peace in Afghanistan is important for the stability in the region,” Atmar said, adding that regional countries should be serious in their promises over fight against terrorism.
