Kabul seeks global pressure on Taliban sponsors

KABUL: The government of Afghanistan wants the international community to look at and pressure the main centers of Taliban outside Afghan borders inside the Pakistani soil.

Gholam Mohammad Ishaaqzai, Afghanistan’s newly-appointed ambassador to the United Nations, said Sunday that the UN and the Security Council need to declare Taliban a destructive group and make urgent actions against it under the international resolutions.

He accused Taliban of not adhering their commitments, thus the this is the world responsibility to make urgent actions against them.

He once again blamed Pakistan for sheltering Taliban, saying that the insurgent group enjoys safe havens and training camps there that are hidden from the eyes of world inhabitants.

Ishaaqzai called on Pakistan to stop supporting of Taliban and join the world caravan in cooperating with the government of Afghanistan to reach a sustainable peace.

Pakistan has been frequently blamed by Afghanistan for sheltering, training, financing and arming Taliban militants to fight against the government forces. Pakistan rejects allegation of supporting Taliban and in return accuses Kabul of supporting the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an insurgent group that sometimes wages attacks Pakistan installations.

The Afghan government tries to make an international consensus to pressure Pakistan to abandon using terrorism against its war-hit neighbor.
