KABUL: Former President Hamid Karzai met with the Afghan students who won the scholarships provided by the Egyptian government.
Karzai’s office said in a statement that the students asked the former president to facilitate their travel to Egypt where they would continue their lessons.
“The former president besides praising the Republic of Egypt for granting scholarships to the Afghan students praised the youths for paying large efforts towards education,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the former president promised to help with the students, particularly their traveling to Egypt.
Earlier, the former president met students in Kabul seeking to return to India to resume studies and he offered support.
Two former Indian envoys to Afghanistan, Amir Sinha, and Gautam Mukhopadhaya, on Twitter, responded positively to Karzai’s comments.
Mukhopadhaya called on the Indian government to address the issue.
