Karzai saddened over Sikh representative’s killing

AT-KABUL: Former President, Hamid Karzai was extremely saddened over the killing Avtar Singh Khalsa, representative of the country’s Sikh community.

Singh was killed along several other Sikhs Sunday when a suicide bomber blew himself up among a gathering of Sikhs in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of Nangarhar. Singh was also candidate of Sikhs in the October legislative election.

“With a great regret, I learned that a number of our Sikh compatriots were killed in yesterday’s terrorist attack in Jalalabad city. Among them was Avtar Singh Khalsa, the only candidate of Sikh our Sikh community in the parliamentary election. Singh was a patriotic character and wanted to more serve his home and people through the parliament. But, the enemies of Afghan people that kill our people for being compatriot, didn’t let him and claimed his life,” Karzai said in a statement.

He expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Afghanistan, wishing the injured quick recovery.
