AT-KABUL: The former president Hamid Karzai on Thursday met with representatives of the Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) at his residence and welcomed the HIA’s decision to become part of the peace process. The delegation arrived in Kabul in late March to negotiate a peace deal with the government.
The HIA’s representatives Muhammad Amin Karim and Attiqullah Safi, and Secretary of the High Peace Council, Muhammad Ayub Rafiqi, called on Karzai today. The ex-president and the delegates discussed participation of the HIA in the peace process.
Karzai welcomed the HIA’s decision to participate in the reconciliation process and hoped that Hezb-i-Islami’s participation in the process would bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
Hamid Karzai once again urged the Taliban to renounce violence and join the peace process to bring durable stability to the country.
