Karzai welcomes peace deal with Hezb-e-Islami

AT-KABUL: Former President Hamid Karzai welcomed the peace agreement between the government and Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, asking the Taliban militants to follow Hekmatyar’s way in joining peace. He also said that any step towards the peace is good for Afghans.

“The foreigners can either build Afghanistan or destroy it,” said Karzai in his address to a gathering of a private university graduates. “Afghans are committed in the construction of their homeland, but some foreign countries make obstacles.”

The former president called on the youth to exhibit a good and sound image of Afghanistan by using the modern technology, and not to spread problems in the country by the technology.

If Afghans work on their capacity, they can hold their destinies and the foreigners would not be able to interfere in our affairs, Karzai told the university graduates.

He added Afghans could become good competitors to the other nations when knowledge was their option.
