Khalilzad “disappointed” over Doha intra-Afghan talks delay

AT News Report

KABUL: US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad on Friday expressed his disappointment over Doha intra-Afghan talks delay. “I’m disappointed Qatar’s intra-Afghan initiative has been delayed. We’re in touch with all parties and encouraged that everyone remains committed to dialogue and the Afghan Peace Process,” he said in a tweet message.

He said that dialogue is and always will be key to a political roadmap and lasting peace.

“There is no alternative. I urge all sides to seize the moment and put things back on track by agreeing to a participant list that speaks for all Afghans. I stand ready to help if our help is needed.”

Moreover, Khalilzad met with Pentagon Acting Secretary Patrick M. Shanahan, where they talked issues related to Afghanistan.

“Always great to see Ambassador Khalilzad, here in the Pentagon to discuss the ongoing talks for a lasting peace. We continue to work together to set the conditions for a political settlement that will end the war in Afghanistan,” Shanahan said in a tweet message.

This comes as Presidential Palace said in a statement that the meeting was “canceled” due to a “disagreement” by Qatari government on the 250-member list proposed by the Afghan side as Presidential Palace described it in a statement.
