Khalilzad to peace opponents: Who takes Afghan killing responsibility in past 6 months?

AT News Report

KABUL: US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad accuses Afghan government of failing to form an “inclusive team” for peace negotiations with Taliban, asking that “who would take responsibility of killing of Afghans in the past six month?”

The US is apparently working to get Afghan government and Taliban for intra-Afghan talks over peace process.

“Taliban formed an authorized delegation for peace negotiations, but government of Afghanistan has not managed to form a team in the past six months. The war is still going on. I ask the government of Afghanistan to introduce its delegation as soon as possible,” Khalizad said in an interview with the local Shamshad broadcaster.

He suggested that the government’s peace delegation should represent all the people of Afghanistan so that it can resolve problems.

He rejected Kabul’s doubts over him and the US government regarding peace process, saying that their roles in the Afghan peace efforts should not be doubted because Washington only wants to cooperate with Kabul for peace facilities.

“We are tired of this war (in Afghanistan) and we don’t want to continue killing of Afghans. Surely Afghans are also tired of the war and killing of each other,” said the US special envoy.
