Major political coalition in the offing
AT-KABUL: Sources revealed political endeavors to form a new opposition coalition that includes first vice-president and ex-governor of Balkhand some political figures. Afghan politicians including Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum and Ata Muhammad Noor, Ahmad Zia Massood, deputy speaker of Wolesi JirgaHumayonHumayon, Mohammad Naeem, HamidzaiLalai and ZahirQader, Mohammad Natiqi and other politicians met in Turkey and agreed on forming a new alliance.
Former Balkh governorAta Muhammad Noorhas said that painstaking discussions have finalized a decision to create a new alliance touted as National Coalition of Afghanistanand a formal announcement would be made in Kabul shortly.
The alliance is aimed at reforms and preparing the ground for a transparent, fair and free parliamentary ballot. The grouping will also support the peace process, ensure stability and reflect on other critical matters, the ex-governor elucidated.
Noor added that elders of councils from Kandahar, Paktia, the Eastern Zone, Jamiat-i-Millie Afghanistan, Hezb-i-Wahdat Millie and other figures would be part of the opposition alliance.
Bashir Ahmad Tanaj, spokesman for Jumbish-i-Islami Afghanistan, said after a lot of efforts and marathon consultations, the politicians were able to agree on the establishment of the major coalition.He said certain parties, Wolesi Jirga members and other politicians would be part of the coalition.
