Military operation launched to retake Yamgan district

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Security forces on Sunday launched a military operation Yamgan district of northeastern Badakhshan province to retake the area from the Taliban militants.

The Taliban fighters attacked and took control of the district on Saturday.

Local officials said that additional troops have arrived in Faizabad, the central city of Badakhshan, to support security forces’ operation in Yamgan.

A spokesman for Badakhshan police headquarters, Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, said ground and air forces have taken part in the military operation.

It is said that foreigner militants were also among the Taliban fighters who attacked the district the other day.

Earlier, security officials said they drawn back their forces from district, tactically, in a bid to prevent civilian casualties.
