MoD seeks Pakistan’s sincere cooperation in war on terror

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: To bring durable peace to the region, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) stresses on Pakistan’s sincere cooperation in war against terrorism. It said that Pakistan should destroy sanctuaries of militants in its soil.

Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the MoD, told Radio Azadi that the entire world knows that all terrorists groups including the Haqqani network has sanctuaries in Pakistan. “Thus, the international community should put pressure on Pakistan to target safe havens of the militants in its soil,” he added.

The remarks come at a time that Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, is scheduled to visit the United States soon. Experts believe that main focus during Raheel Sharif’s visit will be on security in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan should be asked not to support those terrorist groups that are creating insecurity in Afghanistan,” Waziri said.

Amrullah Aman, a military analyst, believes that pressure has been mounted on Pakistan both internationally and inside the country to find a solution to the war in Afghanistan.
