MoRRD to kick off 1,310 uplift schemes: Minister

By Safiullah Amani-KABUL: Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) on Tuesday said that over 1,300 uplift projects would be implemented within next 100 days in the country.

Briefing media-persons over the 100-day plan that he presented to the president more than a week ago, Nasir Ahmad Durrani said that 1,310 developmental projects would be initiated in the country, with prime focus on rural areas.

He said that 280 village councils would be established to execute 289 developmental plans. The minister promised that economy of rural people would be improved. He also assured of bringing reforms in his ministry.

“Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development is committed to follow the principles of accountability and transparency. Therefore, everyone can easily access information about our activities,” he said.

He urged dwellers of the remote areas to benefit from the ministry’s uplift schemes and stop growing poppy. Durrani also asked public for support to implement the projects. He said that donors had provided Afs4.9 billion for 3,167 projects.

The projects include construction of canals for irrigation purpose, construction of basic health units, electricity supply to villages, construction and renovation of schools and improvement of road transportation system.
