Moscow affirms ongoing talks with key regional players on Afghanistan

AT News

KABUL – A senior Russian diplomat has confirmed Moscow’s commitment to maintaining communication with key nations in the context of Afghanistan. The Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, expressed this commitment, emphasizing that while there are no specific dates set for these engagements in the near future, the connections with regional partners will persist.

Kabulov stated, “There are no plans for such [contacts] with exact dates in the near future.” However, he underscored the significance of Russia’s continued interaction with the regional quartet, though without specifying any concrete scheduling details.

This announcement follows Russia’s hosting of the Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan in September. Notably, this gathering included representatives from Russia, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It served as a crucial platform for discussing the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Moreover, the caretaker government in Kabul participated in the meeting, highlighting its significance in shaping regional strategies concerning Afghanistan. Beyond the core participants, the meeting was attended by observers from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

The ongoing engagement with these key players signifies Russia’s commitment to contributing to the resolution of the complex challenges facing Afghanistan, and its approach to maintaining diplomatic channels to address the evolving situation.
