KABUL: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Taliban’s Leader and head of the group’s political office, met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during his visit to Tehran.
Mohammad Naeem, Taliban’s Political Spokesman, said on twitter that the meeting took place on Sunday and the two sides discussed the issues related to Kabul and Tehran.
Naeem said that the meeting went on to discuss situation in Afghanistan, intra-Afghan talks, implementation of Taliban-US peace deal and the need of peace and security in Afghanistan and the region.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that Zarif and Baradar talked about the situation in the region and Afghanistan.
Tasnim News Agency quoted Zarif as saying that Tehran supports an inclusive Islamic government in which all ethnicities and religions have representatives in Afghanistan.
Zarif said that the United States was not a good mediator.
Baradar and his team arrived in Tehran on Tuesday apparently aiming to discuss bilateral relations, the condition of Afghan migrants in Iran and regional situation in meeting with Iranian officials.
Afghan ministry of foreign affairs said they were told by Iranian officials about Taliban’s travel there before the visit took place.
