NAI : 50 percent of visual media stopped operation in past year

Kabul: Afghanistan’s independent media support agency “NAI” says that hundreds of journalists and media workers have lost their jobs in the past year and 50 percent of visual media, 48 percent of audio, all print media and 80 percent of news agencies and online media have stopped their activities.

NAI said in his annual report that in 2022, compared to 2021, incidents of violence against journalists have decreased by 17 percent.

The report adds that 132 cases of violence against journalists and media workers were registered in the past year, while last year they registered 159 cases of violence against journalists.

Though among the 132 registered events of this year, 2 cases of killing, 3 cases of natural death, 2 cases of injuries, 3 cases of summons, 5 cases of disappearance, 22 cases of beatings, 46 cases of threats and insults, and 49 cases of arrests are included.
