Nangarhar governor resigns amid tense security situation
AT-KABUL: Governor of eastern Nangarhar province has tendered his resignation to the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, as violence carried out by the Taliban and the Islamic State has recently intensified there.
The resignation comes as a car bomber rammed Jalalabad custom’s finance department on Sunday, killing 9 and injuring 35 people. Terrorists are still engaged in a firefight with security forces, and one of the assailants has been gunned down so far.
IDLG Spokeswomen Muneera Yosufzada said Sunday that Gulab Mangal,Nangarhar governor, has resigned due to personal issues.
Mangal’s spokesperson Ataullah Khogiani also confirmed the resignation, but refused to elaborate.
