Nangarhar ulema term war against govt un-Islamic

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A number of religious scholars from eastern Nangarhar province termed the ongoing war against the government as a conspiracy engineered by neighboring countries.

The religious scholars in a gathering on Friday threw their weight behind Afghan security forces. They termed the current war against the Afghan government as haram (unlawful under Islamic law).

Abdul Salam Haqqani, one of speakers of the event, said that insecurity and wars are not acceptable to ulema anymore. “Our army soldiers and policemen are Muslim, thus, their killing is complete negation to Islamic instructions,” he added. Haqqani called on people of Afghanistan to lend their support to Afghan security forces.

The religious scholars said that some Pakistani ulema are trying to deceive people by declaring war in Afghanistan halal (lawful), but Haram in Pakistan. The ulema also expressed their concerns over emergence of the Islam State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters in Afghanistan. “The newly emerged militant groups might become a real headache for Afghanistan, if not eliminated in early stage,” they added.

Maulvi Abdul Zahir Haqqani, another religious scholar, said tagged ISIS as a conspiracy against Muslim world.

The religious scholars called on ulema across the country to break the silence and raise their voice against the militant groups who are fighting against Afghan security forces.
