AT-KABUL: Operatives of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) detained nine terrorists on Kabul-Jalalabad highway in Nangarhar province, said an official source.
The NDS in a press statement issued on Wednesday said that the arrested men wanted to conduct terrorist attacks on vehicles of security forces and civilians.
Those arrested terror suspects are identified as Bashirullah, Tahirullah, Wahidullah, Hamid, Ghulam-ur-Rahman, Obaidullah, Mir Hamza, Bilal and Abdul Rashid. The arrested people were also accused of planting roadside bombs and assassination of prominent figures.
The spy agency has also seized weapons and ammunitions from the insurgents. The recovered weapons include a rocket launcher, PK machine gun, four AK-47, six pistols, three hand grenades, two anti tank mines and a wireless transmitter.
In a separate raid, the NDS rescued 11 children in Jalalabad city. The insurgents wanted to send the children to Pakistan for terrorist training.
The statement said that the children were brought from Shigal district of eastern Kunar province under the pretext of sending them to madrasas for religious studies. The children were returned to their families.
