AT-KABUL Special Units of the National Directorate of Security have carried out special raids against Taliban cells in at least 5 provinces of the country where at least 65 militants including members of Haqqani network and Pakistanis were killed and 33 others were injured, the agency said in a statement.

The week-long operations in Ghazni, Uruzgan, Faryab, Bamian and Ghor provinces were jointly carried out with members of the army and police units for further coordination and effectiveness, it said.

“Two Punjabis, two Waziristanis, four members of Haqqani Network were among the 65 Taliban which were eliminated during these operations, while another 33 were injured” the security body said.

Four rocket launchers, 18 land mines, 14 Kalashnikovs, 4 heavy machineguns, 20 communication radios, and a number of propaganda materials were also seized during the operations from the terrorists which were launched to disrupt Taliban operational capabilities.

Afghan forces have increased their special operations against Taliban militants in a while that the militants last month announced their spring offensives and vowed to continue their destructive and terrorist activities against the Afghan forces in the ongoing year.

Although Taliban in first three weeks of the operations have captured at least three districts in northern Afghanistan but security forces were quick to regain control of the two of them while fierce fighting for the third district in northern Baghlan province is under way.
