Nine policemen killed in Ghazni

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Nine policemen have been killed and five other received injuries after Taliban insurgents attacked their check-posts in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Monday.

Provincial Council Chairman, Khaliqdad Akbari told Pajhwok Afghan News security check-posts in the Surkh Qala area of Ghazni City came under attack on Sunday night. He said nine policemen were killed and five others wounded.

However, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman, confirmed four policemen killed and five others wounded. “The check-posts were established for Khogyani district, but Taliban have torched two of them.”

The Taliban insurgent outfit confirmed the attacks, claiming Khogyani district centre had long been under their control and the fighters overran two posts in Ghazni City as well.

He said only two rebels were injured in the gunbattle.
