AT News

KABUL: The participants at the 48th summit of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called for providing further support to Afghanistan as the country is gripped with a severe crisis.

The summit was held in Islamabad on Tuesday and is set for Wednesday as well.

An Islamic Emirate delegation attended the meeting.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi stressed that support should be fueled to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

“Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and preventing a collapse of the Afghan economy must remain our top priorities,” he said. “In doing so, we must encourage and support the efforts of the Afghan authorities to eliminate Daesh. Effective strategies are also needed to deal with other terrorist groups in Afghanistan,” he said.

OIC’s Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha said the organization will be in engagement with the Islamic Emirate in a bid to help for ensuring lasting peace in Afghanistan. “We shall continue dialogue with the authorities in Afghanistan and with international partners with the objective to achieve peace, security, and development in this member country of the OIC,” he said.
