Paktia residents slam Pakistan for unprovoked shelling

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Residents of the Zazai Aryub district of southeastern Paktia province on Wednesday expressed deep concerns over the rocket strikes from Pakistani forces into some areas of the district, asking the government to probe the firings.

“If rocket firing was not stopped, it would create huge problem,” the residents said, asking the authorities to take bold steps to ensure their safety.

Mohammad Anwar, a tribal elder from the volatile district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that different areas were hit with rockets by Pakistani forces based in Para Chinar tribal region.

“Rockets landed in Zadran, Sultan Jaba and Mandir areas,” he said, however, there is no report of casualties yet.

He added that people life would be in deep jeopardize if such attacks were not halted.

“Last night “Tuesday night” several rockets landed,” Mohammad Yousuf, another resident of the district was quoted by Pajhwok Afghan News, as saying. He added that the rockets were fired across the border that created insecurity among inhabitants.

“Around 30 rockets were fired from Pakistan into different parts of the district,” Provincial Police Chief, Brig. Gen. Qader Gul Zadran told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Such attack is a clear violation of international laws, he said. “If firings continued, Afghanistan would have no other choose, but to respond,” he warned.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistani forces have been firing rockets into different provinces such as Kunar, Paktia, Paktika, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Kandahar and other parts of the country in the past several years.
