Paktika clashes leaves 11 Taliban dead

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Eleven Taliban insurgents have been killed and half a dozen others received injures in a clash with Afghan security forces in Gomal district of southeast Paktika province, officials said on Wednesday.

Border Police Commander in Gomal, Raz Mohammad Tofan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the clash broke out in Zangal area last night (Tuesday night) and the security forces continued their operation on the Gomal highway on Wednesday.

He also informed of landmines planted in the highway by the Taliban insurgents. “The insurgents are firing at security forces from mountains, preventing the forces from quick advance.

A local police officer, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that one security personnel was killed and five others injured in a landmine explosion in Khangali locality.

The Taliban insurgents also confirmed the clash in Gomal. Their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Pajhwok Afghan News the fighters had closed all roads to the Gomal district over the past nine days.

Paktika security officials said 100 Taliban and six security forces were killed in nine days of clashes in Gomal district. Another 10 security men and scores of Taliban were wounded, they added.
