Parliament elects deputy speaker amid tensions

AT-KABUL: The Afghan parliament has elected Amir Khan Yar, a lawmaker from eastern Nangarhar, as its second deputy speaker.

In the past two days the house failed to elect its 2nd deputy speaker in the first and second round of voting, but in the third round Amir Khan Yar succeeded to get the target vote against his rival Niamatullah Ghafari.

Wolesi Jirga members once again in third round of elction failed to elect secretary for the house.

“ Amir Khan Yar succeeded to earn 125 vote out of 202 present representative and elect as second deputy speaker for Wolesi Jirga,” said First Deputy  Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga Humaion Humaion.

He said that due to lack of enough votes the candidates for secretary of the Wolesi Jirga failed to elect to the posts, thus election for the mentioned posts will run for the fourth round.

Newly elected second Deputy Speaker for Wolesi Jirga Amir Khan Yar said that “my success is the house success.”

He I will consider national intrest and respect of all members and the house during operation.

After 45 days winter recess, the Wolesi Jirga restarted its work last week and run election to elect its Deputy Speakers and Secretaries.

It is pertained to mention that this is third year that the parliamentarian election delayed due to some political and technical challenges.

Although the electoral bodies as well as government earlier announced to run the parliamentarian and provincial council election this year, but still people see in doubt to the government plages regarding running of parliamentary election in coming year.
