Parliamentary hopeful, Qahraman killed in terrorist attack

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Parliamentary election candidate, Abdul Jabar Qahraman, along with his three supporters, was “martyred” and seven others wounded today morning in a blast which took place inside his election campaign office in southern Helmand province.

Ministry of Interior Deputy Spokesman, Nasrat Rahimi said that four people, including the candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman, were “martyred” and seven others wounded, after explosives, skillfully placed in his office sofa, went off.

The blast occurred today morning around 9:30am in Lashkargah, capital city of Helmand.

He said that three suspected persons were arrested in connection to the incident and are under investigation by security organs.

Helmand Governor’s Spokesman, Omar Zwak, also confirmed the news and said Jabar Qahraman, who was initially seriously injured later succumbed to the deep injuries.

Jabar Qahraman was the current member of the Parliament and had also served as special presidential envoy for Helmand security affairs for a year.

In a statement issued by Presidential place, President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the “terrorist attack” over the candidate Jabar Qahraman.

President said that Qahraman was a honest and patriot “son” of Afghanistan, who always had tried for prosperity of the nation and development of his homeland.

He said that enemy by conducting such attack can’t weaken Afghan people’s intention for the peaceful, national and democratic process of election.

While ordering for comprehensive investigation of the incident, president expressed his condolence to the family of Qahraman and other victims of the incident.

Taliban spokesman, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, on his twitter claimed that “moments ago, General, Abdul Jabar Qahraman, was killed along with his three important advisors in a tactical blast in Lashkargah and his six bodyguards were injured as well as his election campaign office was destroyed in the province.”

Apparently this is the first time that Taliban publicly claimed responsibility for the attack over election candidate.

Since start of the election process including today’s attack 10 candidates were killed, two abducted and two others wounded across the country.
