People on both sides of Durand Line victim of terror: Ghani

KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday said people living on both sides of the Durand Line were victims of terrorism, but regional and international consensus had been developed to rescue them.

The president was talking to a number of writers and politicians from Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces at the Presidential Palace in Kabul.

Calling Khushal Khan Baba’s contributions to Pashtu literature as unparalleled, President Ghani encouraged young writers and researchers to produce beneficial write-ups.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said President Ghani directed the Minster of Tribal and Border Affairs Minister to pave the ground for further strengthening relations between writers on both sides of the border.

He said for popularity and recognition of budding writers and strengthening relations among them holding culture conferences was essential.

The president said people living on both sides of the Durand Line represented a single body and had blood relations and they were victim of terrorism and insecurities.

He said eliminating terrorism needed serious and multifaceted measures on regional and international level and on the level of Afghanistan and Pakistan governments.

“Our basic demand is rescuing the lives of people on both sides of the border and for this purpose, international and regional consensus has been developed and our policy and stance in this regard is logical and clear.”

Ghani said a dignified and lasting peace was every Afghan’s demand and his government had adopted its course of action in this connection. “Despite this if our children are continued to be killed then the path to talks and negotiations will be shut.”

The president said Afghanistan was Asia’s square and a great economic region that was why Silk and other ancient roads were passed through Afghanistan.

“We have solidly assured China, Asian and European countries and the whole world has acknowledged with us that a multidimensional economic debate should commence.”
