AT-KABUL: The counter-narcotics have been included the Nosrat operational plan carried out by police, army and intelligence agency, the interior ministry said Sunday.
The Nosrat operation began in mid March and is going on in 34 provinces against the Taliban militants.
The ministry said that the counter-narcotics plan was also included the operation, in which, the government forces would take part in opium and poppy eradication, heroine labs destruction and drug seizure, in addition to fight militants.
Khalil Bakhtiar, deputy interior minister for counter-narcotics, said that police would carry out the operations in the coordination with the NATO-led Resolute Support mission and would use their experiences in the counter-narcotics operations.
“The counter-narcotics has been included the Nosrat operation and will be launched across the country. Our forces will work to eradicate poppy lands, destroy heroine laboratories and seize drugs. We are in coordination with the NATO forces and are using their experiences in this regard,” Bakhtiar said.
He added that averagely 10 operations were carried out on the heroine labs daily and strongly hit drug traders and their equipment.
The Nosrat operation is planned for a year, and the commando Special Forces, the night raid forces and air force are jointly fighting terrorist groups.
John Nicholson, commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission emphasizes on the capacity building of the Afghan troops for complicated operations. “The Afghan army’s commando showed in it last week attack on a heroine lab in Helmand province that the Afghan troops are capable to carry out operations independently,” Nicholson said.
Mohammad Radmanesh, spokesman of the defense ministry said that most of the operations against drugs gangs were carried out only by the Afghan security forces.
“The army carries out operations with the help of other Afghan troops. We ask for the NATO help very rarely sometimes that we need for advanced technology. Mostly, operations for destruction of the heroine laboratories are carried out by the Afghan troops,” he said.
The security forces are conducting operations to damage poppy lands in the southern areas for three weeks. So far, hundreds of acres of the poppy lands have been eradicated.
The defense ministry said it helped police in the counter-narcotics operations in the entire country.
