By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Women’s Affairs Minister on Monday criticized the political parties and social organs for their “symbolic existence”, asking them to take real steps for empowering women in the country.
“Despite the existence of dozens of political parties and social societies, there has been no significant changes in the women’s rights”, said Delbar Nazari.
Speaking at a conference titled ‘Woman is our national agenda’, Nazari said that the meeting would encourage the political parties and social societies to take real steps for the empowerment of women across the country.
“Women’s role in the political parties and other organs should not be symbolic,” she added. “They should be given chance to try their talents in different sectors.”
Lack of coordination among the concerned organs and short-term projects are other challenges that prevent women of improving well, she noted.
The minister insisted that women’s role was greater in election. “Thus, their rights must be recognized.”
Positive changes in women’s affairs will cause development in the society. So, the political parties and social associations are asked to take honestly steps for their progress, she asserted.
Head of Women’s Affairs Committee of the Lower House Fawzia Kofi said: “To date, women have not crossed redlines and have not got top ranks in the parties.”
Kofi insisted that women must combat for their rights and cross relines to find their position in the society.
