Protect journalists, Atmar told
AT-KABUL: In the wake of a deadly suicide bombing that left 9 journalists dead, the national security advisor Haneef Atmar presided over an emergency meeting with media community on Monday night.
Representatives of media federations iterated their reservations over an increasing level of insecurity and violence against journalists. An emphasis was also laid upon maintaining safety of journalist community and tending to families of the victims of the recent acts of violence.
Afterwards, Atmar made it clear to the security establishments to adopt adamant action to ensure security for journalists. He proposed a framework be established to properly reach out to families of the journalists who lost their lives for freedom of press.
Atmar vowed to bestow educational scholarships upon children of journalists who were martyred in the violent attacks.
Two suicide bombings in Shashdarak vicinity early on Monday morning have martyred and wounded over 24 people, including journalists who were there to cover the first terror attack. According to police thirty minutes after the first attack, another suicide bomber blew himself up among spectating people and journalists—which defines direct target against the journalists.
