AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The High Peace Council (HPC) believes that Qatar can play a crucial role in Afghanistan’s peace process.
Muhammad Ismail Qasyimyar, the HPC’s advisor on international relations, told Azadi Radio on Tuesday that Qatar is enjoying friendly relations with Pakistan and the Taliban, thus the country can play a key role in bringing peace to Afghanistan.
This came at a time that Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani paid a two-day visited Pakistan the other day.
Jawed Kuhistani, a political expert said that Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani’s trip to Islamabad would help in convincing Pakistan to brining the Taliban into negotiation table.
“Taking into confederation relations between Islamabad and Gulf Arab states, and Qatar’s ties with the Taliban in the past, Qatar’s Emir can encourage Pakistani officials to cooperate in the peace process of Afghanistan,” He added.
According to reports, Afghanistan’s National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar had recently visited Qatar to discuss peace talks with Qatari officials. However, Doha rejected the reports.
