Rasouli nominated to become first female member of High Council of Supreme Court

AT-KABUL: Anisa Rasouli has been nominated to become the first female member of the High Council of Supreme Court, said a source in the Presidential Palace.

President Ghani had pledged during his election campaigns to appoint a woman as a member of the High Council of Supreme Court.

According to the source, the move is aimed at enhancing women’s participation in decision making process.

If received vote of confidence from Wolesi Jirga, Rasouli will become the first female member of the council in the history of Afghanistan.

The source said that Anisa Rasouli will be soon introduced to Wolesi Jirga to receive vote of confidence.

Some women right activists were optimistic about this decision of the Presidential Palace and said that presence of a female member in the High Council of Supreme Court will prove helpful in ending violence against women.
