Raziq’s brother named police chief as govt rushes to fill security vacuum in Kandahar
Following assassination of Kandahar Police Chief General Abdul Raziq, his brother has been appointed as acting police chief in the southern province to fill a security vacuum left by the slain general.
Upon a proposition by the Ministry of Interior and its approval by the President, brother of martyred General Raziq,Tadeen Khan, was appointed as acting police chief for southern Kandahar province, said MoI Deputy Spokesman Nasrat Rahimi.
He said that Tadeen Khan was officially introduced by Deputy Ministry of Interior Janan Barekzai on Monday
Gen. Raziq was martyred in a terrorist attack last Thursday in Kandahar province. He was a fearless commander with an unabated agenda against the Taliban and a feud with Pakistan over the Durand Line fencing.
He perpetually resisted Pakistan’s plot to erect fences along the porous de facto border and suffocated the Taliban’s hideouts in the south of Afghanistan.
His assassination plot is seen to have been hatched inside Pakistan and executed by Pakistani militants. Afghanistan’s intelligence chief Masoum Stanikzai raised the issue on Monday while disclosing that the shooter in the terrorist rampage had called someone in Pakistan just moments before he started the firing.
